Hi! I’m Abby – the founder of Mind Health Counseling. I’m also a licensed therapist (LCSW), licensed addictions counselor (LAC), certified ADHD coach, and neurodivergent, imperfect human being.
Working with me means having someone in your corner who truly believes in your resilience and grit.
I try to bring my authentic self to our sessions together, which means that you’ll often find me playing with fidget toys or cracking jokes (I believe that humor, when it’s the right time and place for it, can be the best healer!).
I’m not afraid to call you out on your stuff – of course, always with tenderness and compassion.
I intentionally run my practice this way in the hopes that my clients will also feel safe, with time, to be their real selves with me, too.
I’ve been helping people confront their mental health issues for over 10 years.
I’m proud of my unique combination of experiences, both personal and professional – and the way they position me to do the work that I do with the people that I do it with.
I started Mind Health Counseling in 2019 to chase my dream of working with people of all different backgrounds, regardless of what they’re going through. I saw the need for more flexible, authentic mental health services that people could relate to. I also saw that many private practice therapists were turning away people, especially young people, with more severe mental health issues.
With Mind Health Counseling, I strive to fill those gaps in the market and provide mental health services that work for YOU.
Outside of my private practice, I’ve worked extensively in inpatient and hospital settings to help teens and adults learn to manage severe mental illness, addiction, and co-occurring chronic illness.
I also worked at Children’s Hospital Colorado for 8 years in the Department of Adolescent Medicine as a medical social worker and behavioral health clinician.
I’m proud to say that I’ve led DEI efforts at Children’s Hospital Colorado and beyond. In 2019, I had the honor of receiving the Children’s Hospital Change Maker Award, and also taught classes at Colorado State University's School of Social Work on Anti-Oppressive Social Work Practices.
I love being a therapist, and I wouldn’t choose to do anything else in the world.
On a more personal note —
I was born and raised in Colorado and my favorite color is Kermit the Frog green 🐸. My ideal day is a cozy day of reading, going to vintage shops, and doing some crafts. You’ll often find me fidgeting and sitting in weird positions. Laughing is my absolute favorite, and I love a good dad joke. You know of any good ones? 🤓
